PROCALAMINE

Glycerol has uses as a hyperosmotic, osmotic diuretic, and ophthalmic agent. It may be used as an eye drop in the treatment of glaucoma to reduce intraocular pressure, as a solution or suppository for short-term treatment of constipation, to evacuate the bowel prior to a colonoscopy, and in some ocular surgeries. It may be given intravenously to reduce pressure inside the brain and used externally on the skin as a moisturizer.

The alanine is an a-amino acid and the L-stereoisomer is one of the 24 protein amino acids encoded by the human genetic code. The a-carbon of alanine is a methyl group (-CH3). Based on this characteristic, alanine is classified as “non-polar” or “hydrophobic” amino acid. Also the methyl alanine is relatively chemically inert, which means that the alanine almost never involved in the functionality of the proteins, but is usually a structural part of the proteins, without being part of the “active site” of them.

Arginine is an essential amino acid that is physiologically active in the L-form. It is commonly found as a component of total parenteral nutrition.

Calcium is an endogenous ion of the body essential for the maintenance of a number of physiologic processes. It participates as an integral factor in the maintenance of the functional integrity of the nervous system, in the contractile mechanisms of muscle tissue, in the clotting of blood, and in the formation of the major structural material of the skeleton. Soluble calcium salts are commonly used in the treatment of calcium deficiency.

Sodium chloride is the principle salt involved in maintaining the osmotic tension of blood and tissues. Changes in osmotic tension influence the movement of fluids and diffusion of salts in cellular tissue.

Potassium plays a vital physiological role in maintenance of normal electrical excitability of nerve and muscle. It is also important in the genesis and correction of imbalances of acid-base metabolism.
