The alanine is an a-amino acid and the L-stereoisomer is one of the 24 protein amino acids encoded by the human genetic code. The a-carbon of alanine is a methyl group (-CH3). Based on this characteristic, alanine is classified as “non-polar” or “hydrophobic” amino acid. Also the methyl alanine is relatively chemically inert, which means that the alanine almost never involved in the functionality of the proteins, but is usually a structural part of the proteins, without being part of the “active site” of them.

Arginine is an essential amino acid that is physiologically active in the L-form. It is commonly found as a component of total parenteral nutrition.

Calcium is the most abundant mineral in the body, and is an essential body electrolyte. Homeostasis is mainly regulated by the parathyroid hormone, by calcitonin, and by the activated form of vitamin D. Calcium is a structural component of bones and teeth. Zinc blocks the intestinal absorption of copper from the diet and the reabsorption of endogenously secreted copper. Zinc induces the production of metallothionein in the enterocyte, a protein that binds copper thereby preventing its transfer into the blood. The bound copper is then eliminated in the stool following desquamation of the intestinal cells.

Glucose is frequently used in both adults and children to restore blood glucose concentrations in the treatment of hypoglycaemia resulting from insulin excess or from other causes. The metabolism of glucose is an energy source for the body.
