Active Ingredient: Methronidazole

Indication for Methronidazole

Population group: only children (1 year - 12 years old) , adolescents (12 years - 18 years old) , adults (18 years old or older)
Therapeutic intent: Curative procedure

Dosage regimens

Regimen A: Intravenous, 2,000 milligrams methronidazole, one dose.

Regimen B: Intravenous, 200 milligrams methronidazole, 3 times daily, over the duration of 7 days.

Regimen C: Intravenous, 400 milligrams methronidazole, 2 times daily, over the duration of 5 to 7 days.

Regimen A: Oral, 2,000 milligrams methronidazole, one dose.

Regimen B: Oral, 200 milligrams methronidazole, 3 times daily, over the duration of 7 days.

Regimen C: Oral, 400 milligrams methronidazole, 2 times daily, over the duration of 5 to 7 days.

For patients <10 years old 40 mg/kg as a single dose or 15-30 mg/kg/day divided in 2-3 doses for 7 days and for patients >10 years old 2000 mg once or 200 mg 3 times daily for 7 days or 400 mg twice daily for 5-7 days

Dosage regimens

Regimen A: In case that patient age in years is < 10, oral, 40 milligrams methronidazole per kilogram of body weight, one dose.

Regimen B: In case that patient age in years is < 10, oral, between 15 milligrams methronidazole per kilogram of body weight and 30 milligrams methronidazole per kilogram of body weight, divided 2 to 3 times daily, over the duration of 7 days.

Regimen C: In case that patient age in years is ≥ 10, oral, 2,000 milligrams methronidazole, one dose.

Regimen D: In case that patient age in years is ≥ 10, oral, 200 milligrams methronidazole, 3 times daily, over the duration of 7 days.

Regimen E: In case that patient age in years is ≥ 10, oral, 400 milligrams methronidazole, 2 times daily, over the duration of 5 to 7 days.

Methronidazole

Metronidazole is an anti-infectious drug belonging to the pharmacotherapeutic group of nitroimidazole derivatives, which have effect mainly on strict anaerobes. This effect is probably caused by interaction with DNS and different metabolites.
