Active Ingredient: Glucagon
Glucagon is indicated for treatment of severe hypoglycaemic reactions, which may occur in the management of insulin treated children and adults with diabetes mellitus.
For this indication, competent medicine agencies globally authorize below treatments:
For:
Regimen A, in case that patient weight is < 25 kg
Subcutaneous, 0.5 milligrams glucagon, one dose.
Regimen B, in case that patient age in years is < 6
Subcutaneous, 0.5 milligrams glucagon, one dose.
Regimen C, in case that patient age in years is ≥ 6 and patient weight is ≥ 25 kg
Subcutaneous, 1 milligrams glucagon,.
Administer 0.5 mg (children below 25 kg or younger than 6–8 years) or 1 mg (children above 25 kg or older than 6–8 years).
The patient will normally respond within 10 minutes. When the patient has responded to the treatment, give oral carbohydrate to restore the liver glycogen and prevent relapse of hypoglycaemia. If the patient does not respond within 10 minutes, intravenous glucose should be given.
For:
Regimen A, in case that patient weight is < 25 kg
Intramuscular, 0.5 milligrams glucagon, one dose.
Regimen B, in case that patient age in years is < 6
Intramuscular, 0.5 milligrams glucagon, one dose.
Regimen C, in case that patient age in years is ≥ 6 and patient weight is ≥ 25 kg
Intramuscular, 1 milligrams glucagon, one dose.
Administer 0.5 mg (children below 25 kg or younger than 6–8 years) or 1 mg (children above 25 kg or older than 6–8 years).
The onset of action after an intramuscular injection of 1–2 mg occurs after 5–15 minutes and lasts approximately 10–40 minutes.
After end of the diagnostic procedure oral carbohydrate should be given, if this is compatible with the diagnostic procedure applied.
For:
Intramuscular
1 mg
1 mg once every day
Administer 1 mg by intramuscular injection.

For:
Subcutaneous
1 mg
1 mg once every day
Administer 1 mg by subcutaneous injection.

For:
In case that patient age in years is ≥ 1
Nasal, 3 milligrams glucagon, one dose.
The recommended dose is 3 mg glucagon administered into one nostril.
No dose adjustment is required based on age. Efficacy and safety data are very limited in patients aged 65 years and absent in patients aged 75 and above.
Glucagon nasal powder is given in a single nostril. Glucagon is passively absorbed through the nasal mucosa. It is not necessary to inhale or breathe deeply after dosing.
Patients and their caregivers should be instructed on the signs and symptoms of severe hypoglycaemia. Glucagon nasal powder should be administered as soon as possible when severe hypoglycaemia is recognised.
