Active Ingredient: Clonidine
Clonidine is indicated for the treatment of Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) as monotherapy and as adjunctive therapy to central nervous system (CNS) stimulant medications in pediatric patients 6 years of age and older.
For this indication, competent medicine agencies globally authorize below treatments:
For:
Oral, 0.1 milligrams clonidine, once daily at the end of the day, over the duration of 1 week. Afterwards, oral, between 0.1 milligrams clonidine and 0.4 milligrams clonidine, once daily at the end of the day. The maximum allowed total dose is 0.4 milligrams clonidine daily.
The starting dosage of clonidine is 0.1 mg orally once daily at bedtime with or without food. Titrate the dose of clonidine in increments of 0.1 mg per day at weekly intervals depending on clinical response up to the maximum recommended dosage of 0.4 mg once daily at bedtime.
Doses of clonidine higher than 0.4 mg once daily were not evaluated in clinical trials for ADHD and are not recommended.
When clonidine is added to a CNS stimulant, adjust the dose of the CNS stimulant depending on the clinical response to clonidine.
When discontinuing clonidine, taper the total daily dose in decrements of no more than 0.1 mg every 3 to 7 days to avoid rebound hypertension.
If a dose of clonidine is missed, skip that dose and take the next dose as scheduled. Do not take more than the prescribed total daily amount of clonidine in any 24-hour period.
To be taken at bedtime with or without food.
