Therapeutic indications

Calcium folinate is indicated for:

Calcium folinate rescue in methotrexate therapy

Population group: only children (1 year - 12 years old) , adolescents (12 years - 18 years old) , adults (18 years old or older)

A treatment technique using calcium folinate in conjunction with methotrexate, to minimise systemic toxicity.

For this indication, competent medicine agencies globally authorize below treatments (click for details):

6-12 mg/m² every 6 hours, 12-24 hours after the beginning of the methotrexate infusion, and thereafter 15-200 mg/m² every 6 hours till methotrexate-level >0.5 µmol/l

20 mg/m² every 6 hours for 72 hours after the last dose of trimetrexate

4 doses of 20 mg/m² administered at equal time intervals

Contraindications

Pernicious anaemia or other anaemias due to vitamin B₁₂ deficiency

Megaloblastic anemia due to vitamin B>12< deficiency
