Imipenem and Cilastatin

Therapeutic indications

Imipenem and Cilastatin is indicated for:

Complicated intra-abdominal infections

Population group: only infants (40 days - 1 year old) , children (1 year - 12 years old) , adolescents (12 years - 18 years old) , adults (18 years old or older)

Infectious disease of abdomen and additionally Imipenem and Cilastatin susceptible species

For this indication, competent medicine agencies globally authorize below treatments (click for details):

500 mg of imipenem and 500 mg of cilastatin every 6 hours or 1000 mg of imipenem and 1000 mg of cilastatin every 8 hours or every 6 hours

15/15 or 25/25 mg/kg/dose of imipenem/cilastatin administered every 6 hours

Severe pneumonia

Population group: only children (1 year - 12 years old) , adolescents (12 years - 18 years old) , adults (18 years old or older)

Severe pneumonia including hospital and ventilator-associated pneumonia.

500 mg of imipenem and 500 mg of cilastatin every 6 hours or 1000 mg of imipenem and 1000 mg of cilastatin every 8 hours or every 6 hours

15/15 or 25/25 mg/kg/dose of imipenem/cilastatin administered every 6 hours

Intra- and post-partum infections

Population group: only adolescents (12 years - 18 years old) , adults (18 - 65 years old)

Infectious disease in mother complicating pregnancy, childbirth AND/OR puerperium and additionally Imipenem and Cilastatin susceptible species

500 mg of imipenem and 500 mg of cilastatin every 6 hours or 1000 mg of imipenem and 1000 mg of cilastatin every 8 hours or every 6 hours

Complicated urinary tract infections

Population group: only infants (40 days - 1 year old) , children (1 year - 12 years old) , adolescents (12 years - 18 years old) , adults (18 years old or older)

Urinary tract infectious disease and additionally Imipenem and Cilastatin susceptible species

500 mg of imipenem and 500 mg of cilastatin every 6 hours or 1000 mg of imipenem and 1000 mg of cilastatin every 8 hours or every 6 hours

Complicated skin and soft-tissue infections

Population group: only infants (40 days - 1 year old) , children (1 year - 12 years old) , adolescents (12 years - 18 years old) , adults (18 years old or older)

Soft tissue infection and additionally Imipenem and Cilastatin susceptible species

500 mg of imipenem and 500 mg of cilastatin every 6 hours or 1000 mg of imipenem and 1000 mg of cilastatin every 8 hours or every 6 hours

15/15 or 25/25 mg/kg/dose of imipenem/cilastatin administered every 6 hours

Contraindications

Imipenem and Cilastatin is contraindicated in the following cases:

Hypersensitivity to any other carbapenem antibacterial agent

Carbapenem allergy

Hypersensitivity to beta-lactam antibacterial agents

Allergy to penicillin
Cephalosporin allergy
Monobactam allergy
