Magaldrate interacts in the following cases:
In patients with renal impairment (creatinine clearance <30 ml/min), magaldrate may be used only with regular monitoring of magnesium and aluminum levels in the serum. Serum aluminum levels should not exceed 40 ng/ml.
A significant decrease in the absorption of tetracyclines and quinolones (ciprofloxacin, ofloxacin and norfloxacin) has been observed in the use of antacids.
In co-administration of magaldrate with coumarin anticoagulants, there is a potential for enhancing the anticoagulant effect of coumarin derivatives.
Concomitant taking antacids containing aluminum and acid containing beverages (fruit juices, wine, etc.) or effervescent tablets containing citrate or tartaric acid increases the intestinal absorption of aluminum.
A small decrease in absorption of digoxin, isoniazid, iron compounds and chlorpromazine may occur when they are taken at the same time with a magaldrate.
Magaldrate should be used with caution in patients with pyloric stenosis.
