Proguanil and Atovaquone

Therapeutic indications

Proguanil and Atovaquone is indicated for:

Plasmodium falciparum malaria

Population group: only children (1 year - 12 years old) , adolescents (12 years - 18 years old) , adults (18 years old or older)

Atovaquone/proguanil is a fixed dose combination which acts as a blood schizonticide and also has activity against hepatic schizonts of Plasmodium falciparum.

Because it is effective against drug sensitive and drug resistant P. falciparum it is especially recommended for prophylaxis of P. falciparum malaria where the pathogen may be resistant to other antimalarials.
