Therapeutic indications

Remdesivir is indicated for:

COVID-19 infection with pneumonia requiring supplemental oxygen

Population group: only minors (0 - 18 years old) , adults (18 years old or older)

Remdesivir is indicated for the treatment of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) in adults and paediatric patients (at least 4 weeks of age and weighing at least 3 kg) with pneumonia requiring supplemental oxygen (low- or high-flow oxygen or other noninvasive ventilation at start of treatment).

For this indication, competent medicine agencies globally authorize below treatments (click for details):

200 mg single loading dose on Day 1 and thereafter 100 mg once daily for 5-10 days treatment duration

For patients at least 4 weeks old weighting ≥3 to <40 kg 5 mg/kg single loading dose on Day 1 and thereafter 2.5 mg/kg, and for patients weighting ≥40 kg 200 mg single loading dose on Day 1 and thereafter 100 mg once daily

COVID-19 infection with an increased risk of progressing to severe COVID-19

Population group: only children (1 year - 12 years old) , adolescents (12 years - 18 years old) , adults (18 years old or older)

Remdesivir is indicated for the treatment of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) in adults and paediatric patients (weighing at least 40 kg) who do not require supplemental oxygen and who are at increased risk of progressing to severe COVID-19.

For this indication, competent medicine agencies globally authorize below treatments (click for details):

200 mg single loading dose on Day 1 and thereafter 100 mg once daily for 3 days

For patients weighting ≥40 kg 200 mg single loading dose on Day 1 and thereafter 100 mg once daily for 2 days

Contraindications

Remdesivir is contraindicated in the following cases:

Severe renal impairment

at least one of

Renal failure stage 5: Kidney failure (GFR <15 mL/min/1.73 m2 or dialysis)

Severe hepatic impairment

Hepatic failure stage IV
