Therapeutic indications

Roflumilast is indicated for:

Severe chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) associated with chronic bronchitis

Population group: only adults (18 years old or older)

Roflumilast is indicated for maintenance treatment of severe chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) (FEV₁ post-bronchodilator less than 50% predicted) associated with chronic bronchitis in adult patients with a history of frequent exacerbations as add on to bronchodilator treatment.

For this indication, competent medicine agencies globally authorize below treatments (click for details):

250 ug once daily for 28 days and thereafter 500 ug once daily for several weeks until effect is achieved

Contraindications

Roflumilast is contraindicated in the following cases:

Pregnancy

Lactation

Moderate or severe hepatic impairment (Child-Pugh B or C)

at least one of

Hepatic failure stage III
Hepatic failure stage IV

Special clinical conditions

at least one of

Human immunodeficiency virus infection
Disorder of immune function
Lupus erythematosus
Progressive multifocal leukoencephalopathy
Infectious disease

Malignant tumour and additionally not Basal cell carcinoma of skin
