Therapeutic indications

Terbutaline is indicated for:

Bronchospasm

Population group: only adults (18 years old or older)

Terbutaline is a selective beta2-adrenergic agonist recommended for the relief of bronchospasm in bronchial asthma and other bronchopulmonary disorders in which bronchospasm or reversible airways obstruction is a complicating factor.

Short term management of uncomplicated premature labour

Population group: only adults (18 - 65 years old)

To arrest labour between 22 and 37 weeks of gestation in patients with no medical or obstetric contraindication to tocolytic therapy.

Contraindications

Terbutaline is contraindicated in the following cases:

Hypertrophic cardiomyopathy

Hypertrophic cardiomyopathy

Halogenated anaesthetics

Halogenated hydrocarbons

Gestational age of <22 weeks

at least one of
Gestation less than 20 weeks
Gestation period, 21 weeks

Threatened abortion during the 1st and 2nd trimester

at least one of
Threatened abortion in first trimester
Threatened abortion in second trimester

Conditions of the mother or foetus in which prolongation of the pregnancy is hazardous

Pre-eclampsia
Infection of uterus
Placenta praevia with haemorrhage

Intrauterine foetal death, known lethal congenital or lethal chromosomal malformation
