Active Ingredient: Glyceryl trinitrate
For the treatment of angina pectoris and the treatment of variant angina.
For this indication, competent medicine agencies globally authorize below treatments:
Sublingual
400 - 1,200 ug
From 133.333 To 400 ug 3 time(s) per day every day
At the onset of an attack or prior to a precipitating event: one or two 400 microgram metered doses sprayed under the tongue. If symptoms do not resolve, this may be repeated at five minute intervals for a total of three doses. If symptoms have not resolved after a total of three doses, the patient should seek prompt medical attention.
Transdermal
5 - 15 mg
From 1.667 To 5 mg 3 time(s) per day every day
The response to nitrates differs between individuals, and the minimum effective dose should be prescribed in each case. It is therefore recommended that treatment is started with one glyceryl trinitrate 5 patch per day, with upward dosage titration when necessary. Application can either be for a continuous period of 24 hours or intermittently, incorporating a patch free interval (usually at night).
Attenuation of effect has occurred in some patients being treated with sustained release nitrate preparations. On the basis of current clinical studies it is recommended that in such cases glyceryl trinitrate should be applied daily with a patch free interval of 8-12 hours.
The glyceryl trinitrate patch should be applied to a clean, dry healthy area of skin on the torso or the arms.
Subsequent patches should not be applied to the same area of skin until several days have elapsed. The glyceryl trinitrate patch adheres easily to the skin, and also stays in place whilst bathing or during physical exercise.
