Therapeutic indications

Codeine and Paracetamol is indicated for:

Moderate to severe pain

Population group: only adolescents (12 years - 18 years old) , adults (18 years old or older)

Paracetamol/codeine combination is recommended for the relief of migraine, headache, dental pain, period pain, backache, arthritic & rheumatic pain, strains & sprains and sciatica.

Codeine is indicated in patients older than 12 years of age for the treatment of acute moderate pain which is not considered to be relieved by other analgesics such as paracetamol, ibuprofen or aspirin (alone).

For this indication, competent medicine agencies globally authorize below treatments (click for details):

1000 mg of paracetamol and 20 mg of codeine up to 4 times a day

500-1000 mg of paracetamol and 30-60 mg of codeine

Contraindications

Codeine and Paracetamol is contraindicated in the following cases:

Lactation

Pneumonia

Oncoming childbirth

Obstetric operation
Birth

Imminent premature birth

at least one of

Premature birth of newborn
Premature delivery

Delirium tremens

Alcohol withdrawal delirium

Acute abdomen

Coma
