Therapeutic indications

Escitalopram is indicated for:

Major depressive episodes

Population group: only adults (18 years old or older)

Major depressive disorder

For this indication, competent medicine agencies globally authorize below treatments (click for details):

10-20 mg once daily

5 mg once daily and thereafter 5-10 mg once daily

Panic disorder with or without agoraphobia

Population group: only adults (18 years old or older)

Panic disorder

For this indication, competent medicine agencies globally authorize below treatments (click for details):

5 mg once daily for one week and thereafter 10-20 mg once daily

5 mg once daily and thereafter 5-10 mg once daily

Social anxiety disorder

Population group: only adults (18 - 65 years old)

Social phobia

10 mg once daily for 2-4 weeks and thereafter 5 or 20 mg once daily

Generalised anxiety disorder

Population group: only adults (18 years old or older)

Generalized anxiety disorder

Contraindications

Escitalopram is contraindicated in the following cases:

Monoamine oxidase inhibitors (MAO-inhibitors)

Monoamine oxidase inhibitors (MAOIs)

QT interval prolongation or congenital long QT syndrome

at least one of

Long QT syndrome
Prolonged QT interval
Risk factors that increase the risk of QT prolongation

Medicinal products that are known to prolong the QT interval

Drugs prolonging QT interval
